Eric Lowrey had the opportunity to play on July 5 in the Celebrity/Amateur round of the American Century Celebrity Golf Classic. Paired with former Yankee Pitcher Rick Rhoden, Lowrey rose to the pressure of the situation and carded a good round. His highlight came when he delivered a tee shot on the par-3 17th hole to within 12 feet of the flag, generating applause from roughly 75 spectators! Lowrey and Rhoden were part of a 5-person team finished 6th overall in the tournament.
Hal Zemel did not get to play in the Celebrity round, but the die-hard Yankee fan was able to participate in the day as he drove Rhoden's cart for a majority of the round and greatly enjoyed spending time with the former pitcher.
Once the excitement of the Celeb-Am event had died down, Lowrey swept a 2-match series from Zemel to capture the Nevada State Title. At Sierra Nevada Golf Ranch, Lowrey sped out to a 10 - 2 lead at the turn, then held off a Zemel run by chipping to 12 feet on #16 and then sinking the birdie putt on the way to a 17.5-8.5 win. Then after falling behind early at Incline Village, Lowrey then put together a tremendous stretch of 11 holes where he did not lose a hole outright on the way to a 14.5 - 10.5 victory and the Nevada State Title!
